“Back to Basics – Directing a Play” with Coral and Robert Pepper
Perhaps you’ve been asked to direct your first production. Or you’d like to direct but don’t have the confidence.
Or you want to make the move from acting to directing, but are not sure how to go about it. Or maybe you’ve
already directed but felt that something was missing?
This one day course aims to provide new and less experienced directors with the principles of directing.
New directors are often thrown in at the deep end and left to get on with it. This workshop will consider directing a play from before it is even a twinkle in a first time director’s eye!
Our two tutors have many years of experience and will share what has and has not worked for them,
In the morning session we will examine what to look out for when choosing a play. We will go through the very first stages of direction once the play has been chosen; characters, moves, the set, etc., up to the first rehearsal.
In the afternoon there will be some practical work on set design and by the end of the day every participant will have something to take home. The day will conclude with questions and answers, so bring along your directing dilemmas!
Please note: This course will also be of interest to actors as it will provide insight into the director’s world.
Coral and Robert Pepper are well known in the amateur theatre community in Cornwall. They are both former CDA adjudicators and Coral was Moderating Adjudicator until moving away from the county last year. Between them they have seen a lot of plays! Both have over 40 years of directing experience and Robert has twice won awards for his set designs. We are delighted that they are returning to share their wealth of experience with us on Theatre Day.
